Ingredients

12 oz extra firm tofu
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1 tbsp cornstarch
2 tsp oil
1 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
1/4 cup freshly-squeezed lemon juice
1/2 tsp or more lemon zest
3 tbsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/8 tsp white pepper
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp cornstarch
chopped green onion

Steps

Press the tofu under a plate for 10 minutes, then cut it into cubes and season with salt and pepper.
Toss the tofu with 1 tablespoon cornstarch, then pan-fry it in oil in a 10-inch skillet for 12 minutes.
Whisk the soy sauce, lemon juice, lemon zest, maple syrup, garlic powder, peppers, salt, and remaining cornstarch.
Pour the sauce into the skillet and simmer for 8 minutes, turning the tofu until coated.
Cook for 5 more minutes, then scatter the chopped green onion over the tofu.
