Ingredients
- 2 onions
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp yellow cornmeal
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp cajun seasoning
- 2 egg whites
- nonstick spray oil
Steps
- Slice the onions into rings and soak them in buttermilk for 30 minutes.
- Whisk the egg whites in a shallow bowl.
- Mix the flour, panko, cornmeal, and Cajun seasoning in a second shallow bowl.
- Dip each onion ring in egg whites, coat it in the crumb mixture, and place the rings on a tray.
- Chill the coated rings for 60 minutes.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400 F and spray the basket with oil.
- Air-fry the rings in batches for 10 to 12 minutes, turning halfway, until crisp and tender.
