Ingredients
- 2 quarts fresh or frozen blackberries
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 3/4 cup milk
Steps
- Combine the blackberries, 1 cup sugar, water, butter, nutmeg, cinnamon, and lemon juice in a large pot.
- Bring the berry mixture to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes.
- Mix the flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and milk into a soft dough.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough over the simmering berries.
- Cover the pot and simmer for 20 minutes without lifting the lid.
- Remove the lid and cook for 5 more minutes, until the dumplings are firm in the centers.
