- 14 oz extra firm or firm tofu pressed
- 1 tbsp low sodium tamari/soy sauce
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp maple syrup or other sweetener
- 1/2 tsp hot sauce (optional)
- 2 tsp oil
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp garlic
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cornstarch or tapioca starch (optional)
- 3/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3/8 tsp cayenne
- 1 tbsp nutritional yeast (optional)
Steps
- Whisk the tamari, ketchup, maple syrup, hot sauce, oil, garam masala, garlic, salt, and starch in a shallow dish.
- Cut the pressed tofu into strips, coat them in the sauce, and marinate for 45 minutes.
- Heat the oven to 425 F and line a large baking sheet with oil.
- Mix the breadcrumbs, salt, cayenne, and nutritional yeast in a shallow dish.
- Coat each tofu strip with the breadcrumb mixture and place the strips on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 25 minutes, turning halfway, until the strips are crisp and browned.
