1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/3 cup molasses
1 egg
2 tsp baking soda
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter
1 package (8 oz) cream cheese
1 lb powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract

Steps

Heat the oven to 350 F and grease a 9-by-13-inch pan.
Beat butter, both sugars, vanilla, molasses, and egg until smooth.
Mix in baking soda, flour, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
Spread the batter in the pan and bake for 18 minutes.
Beat the remaining butter and cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
Cool the bars for 5 minutes, spread on the frosting, and cut into squares.
