Ingredients
- 40 large caramels or 46 small caramels
- 2/3 cup evaporated milk
- 1 package (18 1/2 oz) german chocolate cake mix
- 3/4 cup melted butter
- 6 oz chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Steps
- Heat the oven to 350 F and grease a 9-by-13-inch baking pan with cooking oil.
- Mix the cake mix, flour, and melted butter, then press half the dough into the pan and bake for 10 minutes.
- Melt the caramels with the evaporated milk in a saucepan over low heat for 8 minutes, stirring until smooth.
- Pour the caramel over the baked crust, then scatter the chocolate chips and optional nuts over it.
- Crumble the remaining dough over the top and bake for 20 minutes.
- Cool the bars in the pan for 30 minutes before cutting.
