1/2 cup slivered almonds
3 tbsp granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

8 oz semi-sweet chocolate

Steps

Heat the oven to 350 F and finely chop the almonds.
Beat the butter and confectioners' sugar until smooth, then mix in the vanilla and rum if using.
Stir in the flour, cocoa, baking powder, salt, almonds, and granulated sugar to make a soft dough.
Shape the dough into 1-inch balls, place them on a greased baking sheet, and flatten them slightly.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, then cool the cookies completely for 15 minutes.
Heat the cream until steaming, pour it over the chocolate, butter, and rum if using, then stir until smooth and sandwich the cookies.
