Ingredients
- 3 lb spareribs
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 large onions
- salt & freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 lb sauerkraut
- 1/2 tsp caraway seed
- 1 apple
Steps
- Heat the oven to 325 F and season the ribs with salt and pepper.
- Heat the oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat and brown the ribs for 8 minutes.
- Cook the sliced onions in the pot for 3 minutes.
- Add the sauerkraut, water, caraway seeds, and sliced apple around the ribs.
- Cover the Dutch oven and bake for 75 minutes.
- Uncover and bake for 15 minutes, until the ribs reach at least 145 F and are tender.
