  • 1/4 tsp espresso powder (optional)
  • 1 pinch nutmeg or cardamom
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Steps

  1. Warm the milk, sugar, and 2 tablespoons butter in a small saucepan until warm, then stir in the yeast and rest 5 minutes.
  2. Mix in the egg, flour, and salt, then knead on a lightly floured surface for 8 minutes until smooth.

  4. Melt the remaining butter and mix it with cinnamon, sugar, vanilla, espresso powder, and nutmeg.
  5. Roll the dough into a rectangle, spread it with the cinnamon butter, cut it into pieces, and layer them in a greased 9-by-5-inch loaf pan.
  6. Cover the pan and let the dough rise for 45 minutes while heating the oven to 350 F.
  7. Brush the dough with the beaten egg and water, bake for 35 to 40 minutes, and cool before mixing powdered sugar with milk for the glaze.
