Ingredients
- 4 onions
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 120 ml beef or vegetable stock
- 1 tsp miso
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- 100 g gruyère or mature cheddar
- 20 g panko breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp sage leaves chopped
Steps
- Heat the oven to 400 F and place the onions in a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
- Whisk the stock, miso, and maple syrup, then pour the mixture around the onions.
- Cover the dish with foil and roast for 50 minutes, until the onions are tender.
- Mix the cheese, panko, and sage in a bowl.
- Remove the foil, drizzle the onions with olive oil, and cover them with the cheese mixture.
- Bake uncovered for 15 minutes, then broil for 3 minutes until the topping is browned.
